Overview. I’ve hiked this little loop more times than I can recall, and it’s always gorgeous. Taking in the views and arch with snow was especially nice - even if the clouds lingered much later than forecast. When visiting the area, this is a great, short hike with plenty of eye candy.

Parking. Ample parking is available at the trailhead along with pit toilets and bear-proof trash cans.

Trail Navigation. Locate the trailhead sign at the end of the paved loop in the parking lot. Walk straight on the ridge before reaching some steps and a patch of exposed rock - this is the top of Sky Bridge. Take in the views and continue down to the nose of the ridge before turning to walk the side of the ridge and reach the base of Sky Bridge. Enjoy the views here from all sides and notice that it’s a double arch with a nice sit/meditation spot overlooking the Gorge. Continue the path taking note of the incredible sandstone rock formations before ascending a set of stairs that’ll elevate your heart rate. Finish the hike by continuing uphill to reach the trailhead sign and return to your vehicle.

HIKER NOTE - Easier Counterclockwise. For an easier feeling hike, go counterclockwise to descend the staircases and have a gentler climb to the top of the arch.

HIKER NOTE - Snow and Ice. Take care here when snow and ice are present. The section atop Sky Bridge is fully exposed - no railings and a high fall. I had microspikes with me, but the snow was fresh and a flat path was easy to follow. I would not step on anything sloped atop the arch, as a slip and fall is far too easy here. I would not hike this on pure ice.

RULE REMINDER - Day Use ONLY. No camping is permitted here - and that’s a good thing. Rather than clogging up parking with campers and backpackers, you’ll find plenty of spots early morning and late afternoon even on busy weekends.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
