Overview. Finishing off the day at Whistling Arch was pretty much perfect. The clouds finally broke and the wintry scene here is fantastic - particularly at the overlook. When you step out to the overlook, take care not to get too close to the edge when ice/snow are present, but take your time enjoying the view and listening to the waterfalls below.

Parking. Space for 8 to 10 vehicles is available at the trailhead along with bear-proof trash cans, but no pit toilets.

Trail Navigation. This is an easy hike on well marked, heavily used trail. Follow the trail to Whistling Arch and continue beyond it to reach the overlook. Trail extends beyond the overlook very close to the cliffs, but adds little to the hike. Retrace your steps to return to your vehicle.

HIKER NOTE - Best Easy Winter Sunset. When Winter is in full effect, Forest Service closes Chimney Rock Road. For my hiking miles, this leaves Whistling Arch as the best sunset spot with a short, easy walk.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
