Overview. This is a nice, short walk around Butler Lake with plenty of fishing spots along the trail. Enjoy these lakeside views with a good number of wildflowers, plenty of squirrels, and on this day, a pair of garter snakes. This park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and nearly all its handiwork remains on display today.

Parking. Ample parking is available at the lake lot.

Trail navigation. From the parking lot, make your way to Stone Shelter and continue toward the paddleboat dock. Turn left at the lake and hike the loop clockwise. A number of spurs leading off the trail to additional parking, cottages, and campsites exist. Keep right to follow the loop before returning uphill from the paddleboats until reaching the sidewalk to the parking lot.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
