Shallow Flats Loop
Overview. These wetlands were an entertaining stop with one Canadian goose wreaking havoc upon its neighbors. It was also sunrise part two with the sun cresting above the eastern knobs to provide a gorgeous morning scene.

Trail Navigation. This is a short hike on well defined paths. Start from the trailhead and walk the trail to see what there is to see. Portions can hold water (common on wetland trails), so wear some waterproof footwear or enjoy a little foot soak.
HIKER NOTE - Additional Wetlands. There’s more to see across the road with unofficial paths. With race time approaching, I didn’t have time to check them out, but I’m certain it’s a little busier with wildlife on that side.
CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
CAUTION - Black Bears. Ursus Americanus - a.k.a. the American black bear is growing in population throughout much of Kentucky. Know Before You Go => US Forest Service Black Bear Safety Tips
