Parking. Ample parking is available at the trailheads complete with bathrooms and trash receptacles. It was crowded on our visit, but visitors shuffle in and out at a consistent rate.

Trail Navigation. Start at the main trailhead by the bathrooms and walk uphill continuing straight at each trail intersection. Cross the state line and continue out to the highly developed overlook. This is a clifftop, so be sure to stay behind the railings and on trail. On the way back, take a left at the first fork to finish the hike on the handicap accessible trail section and return to the parking lot.

HIKER NOTE - Sunrise. While the late day views we enjoyed were great, this spot on a foggy morning is absolutely spectacular! Get here on a clear morning with fog covering the valley and rolling over Cumberland Gap.

HIKER NOTE - False Arch, Monolith Behind. There is a false arch along the trail and behind it is an incredible, slender, and tall monolith. While park rules demand hikers stay on trail, this is a pair of fascinating rock forms - even at a distance.

CAUTION - Deadly Drops. Long falls from high places are the #1 non-health related cause of death for hikers in Kentucky. Keep your distance from the edges of cliffs to avoid a deadly fall. Young children should be kept close.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide

CAUTION - Black Bears. Ursus Americanus - a.k.a. the American black bear is growing in population throughout much of Kentucky. Know Before You Go => US Forest Service Black Bear Safety Tips
