Sunrise at Twin Knobs Picnic Area
Overview. Nearly all the views on Twin Knobs’ shoreline are south or west facing, but this little spot just off a picnic area was perfect for sunrise. Situated between the group campsites and the beach, this little walk was ideal for sunrise.

Parking. Ample parking is available outside the closed gate near the dumpster for the group campsites. When the beach is open, considerably more parking is available at the beach. Park on the east side closest to the beach area entrance in season.
Trail Navigation. When the beach is closed and gated, start this hike from the parking lot and take the road into the beach parking lot. Keep your eyes left to find the small picnic area and head east. From there, circle around and find a path out to the shoreline to take in sunrise. Retrace your steps to return to your vehicle.
HIKER NOTE - Fee Area. A $10 day use fee is payable at the gate when the campground is open. If primitive camping in the area, take full advantage of your fee by using the bathrooms, showers, dumpsters, and beach:-) Just be sure NOT to park at campsites.
HIKER NOTE - Twin Knobs Beach. The beach is open seasonally over the summertime, but is accessible year round. On my visit, the buoys were still in storage and the beach looked like it would need a good bit of elbow grease (and heavy equipment) to be ready for summer crowds.
CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
CAUTION - Black Bears. Ursus Americanus - a.k.a. the American black bear is growing in population throughout much of Kentucky. Know Before You Go => US Forest Service Black Bear Safety Tips
