Snow Day at Zilpo Arch

Map of Zilpo Arch Out and Back, Cave Run Lake

Elevation Profile of Zilpo Arch Out and Back, Cave Run Lake

Overview. This is a great stop whenever visiting this section of forest, as it’s only a few dozen paces off the road. Zilpo Arch is officially classified as ‘irregular’ just like a similar arch a little south - Devil’s Market House Arch. Arches like this are oddities, and explaining their formation would be clumsy at best, but hey, maybe this was a coffee table for giants:-)

Parking. Roadside parking for up to two vehicles is available off the northbound lane of Zilpo Road across from the arch with a couple more spots a little further south.

Trail Navigation. During Winter and much of Spring, this arch is readily visible from the road. The trail is clearly defined from the west side of the road and descends to the arch. Be sure to circle around and through the arch to take it all in before returning to your vehicle.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide
