Fall Colors at Camera Point and Sky Bridge Overlook

Map of Camera Point and Sky Bridge Overlook

Overview. This is a nice pair of overlooks that are less frequently visited than the Sky Bridge loop - even though it’s just a short walk down the road. We stopped here to grab a couple quick views that are much improved than prior years thanks to the clearing of the handicap accessible overlook. On a busy Fall day, it was kinda nice to capture some photos of folks walking across the impressive arch.

Parking. Very limited parking (handicap preferred) is available at the official trailhead with far more parking at the Sky Bridge Parking Lot and at the picnic areas a short walk down the road.

Trail Navigation. From the Sky Bridge Parking Lot, find the unmarked, but paved trail between the trash bins and information board. Continue to reach the road before arriving at a concrete parking lot for handicap parking. To the left is the fully handicap accessible overlook with a view out to Sky Bridge. Walk to the official trailhead and follow the trail to a developed overlook with views above Swift Camp Creek out to the Castle Arch ridgeline. Retrace your steps to return to the parking lot.

HIKER NOTE - Quiet Mornings. This would be a fantastic spot for a quiet morning of solitude at sunrise. This isn’t the kind of trail that will attract a lot of visitors, so you can sit in peace - ideally with with clear skies and fog playing below.

RULE REMINDER - No Camping. Sky Bridge Recreation Area is Day Use Only and camping is prohibited.

CAUTION - Deadly Drops. Long falls from high places are the #1 non-health related cause of death for hikers in Kentucky. Keep your distance from the edges of cliffs to avoid a deadly fall. Young children should be kept close.

CAUTION - Poisonous Snakes. Copperheads and timber rattlesnakes can be found in the area. Should you encounter one, stop and slowly back away. Always give venomous snakes a wide berth. Know Before You Go => University of Kentucky Venomous Snake Guide

CAUTION - Black Bears. Ursus Americanus - a.k.a. the American black bear is growing in population throughout much of Kentucky. Know Before You Go => US Forest Service Black Bear Safety Tips
