Tent Math - Divide by 2 for Comfort

I just got off the phone with LaFonda who is enjoying the holiday weekend at Labor Dave along the Columbia River with my sister and Kare Bear.

They have a 6-person tent for 3 people, and it’s a comfortable size.

Just a reminder that tent math is to always divide by 2 if you want to camp in comfort:

A 2-person tent fits 1 person comfortably.

A 4-person tent fits 2 people comfortably.

A 6-person tent fits 3 people comfortably.

While backpackers are always on the lookout for saving a few ounces off their pack weight, if you’re car camping - or even dispersed camping with a shortish walk - bring the bigger tent and add a little comfort to your experience.

Of course, I do the opposite and routinely camp in my very small 1-person tent that isn’t nearly big enough for my 6’3” frame to stretch out, but it fits nicely in my backpack, so I’m happy to make that trade. I loathe changing out gear in my pack, so if it fits, it stays.

Plus, I can grab that pack and run out to Hanson’s Point for sunrise on a whim. Maybe I’ll do that again sometime soon. Maybe Sunday night???
